Cinco Anos Divulgando a Cultura Brasileira

O Cine Digaai procura reunir pessoas interessadas pelo cinema brasileiro. A proposta é que os participantes assistam os filmes para, então, discutí-los, apreciando cada obra em sua plenitude, contando com mediação de um convidado especial para introduzie o tema e moderar a discussão. O objetivo é exibir filmes brasileiros e promover debates sobre a cultura e sociedade brasileira. Visamos também integrar aos debates a comunidade imigrante brasileira e convidados de outras nacionalidades e contextos culturais de forma a gerar consciência sobre as diferentes identidades que convivem no espaço urbano de Boston. 

Com a abertura do Espaço Digaai, criou-se a possibilidade de encontros da comunidade brasileira e, assim, momentos de reflexão sobre as questões culturais dos diversoso países de origem dos participantes. Como tais espaços existem, sobretudo nas universidades, muitas vezes distantes da comunidade, o Espaço Digaai, graças a sua localização e enfoque na produção de conhecimento e cultura da diáspora brasileira, é um lócus privilegiado para gerar tal iniciativa.

Além disso, permite utilizar, com o apoio do Consulado-Geral do Brasil em Boston, o acervo de filmes que o Ministério da Relações Exteriores disponibiliza a seus postos no exterior, efetivando a missão de levar o patrimônio cultural do Brasil à população imigrante.
Com curadoria do Professor Everton Vargas da Costa o Espaço Diga Aí e o Consulado-Geral do Brasil inauguraram em fevereiro de 2017 a amostra de filmes brasileiros hoje já na sua quinta edição.

Acontecendo na primeira sexta-feira de cada mês, as exibições são seguidas de uma hora de conversa com a plateia, motivada pelos convidados de cada seção. As discussões são em inglês ou português e os filmes exibidos, em geral, têm legendas em inglês.

O primeiro filme da amostra foi filme brasileiro Jean Charles (2009) mostra as experiências de diversos brasileiros que arriscam viver longe de seus país, contando não apenas com seus próprios esforços, mas principalmente com alegria e criatividade, características do povo brasileiro. Baseado no caso do brasileiro Jean Charles de Menezes, assassinado no metrô de Londres por agentes do serviço secreto britânico, ao ser confundido com um terrorista. O filme acompanha a vida do eletricista mineiro e de seus primos Alex, Patrícia e Vivian em busca de um sonho de uma vida melhor.

Dirigido por Henrique Goldman, o filme conta com um elenco formado por Selton Mello, Vanessa Giácomo e Patrícia Armani, este primeiro filme teve casa lotada, com brasileiros, mexicanos, americanos e japoneses entre os atendentes.

A discussão sobre o filme foi facilitada por Heloisa Galvão, Diretora Executiva do Grupo da Mulher Brasileira (http://www.verdeamarelo.org/), conjuntamente com os jovens brasileiros Francisco Barzotto e Gabriel Montresor.

Digaai Bate Papo is a group of people who are interested in meeting informally to converse in both Portuguese and English. The goal is to practice both languages ​​and to get to know the cultures that they represent. It meets every second Sunday of the month from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Digaai Space at 151b Pearl Street in Boston.

Digaai Space
Digaai Space is an educational and cultural space that aims to stimulate the spontaneous and experimental exchange of knowledge and culture between Brazilians and other communities in Greater Boston. Toward this end, Digaai Space facilitates the processes of research on and production and circulation of knowledge about the Brazilian diaspora and offers workshops, courses, lectures, and other projects of a cultural and educational nature. Digaai Space is an integral part of the digital platform www.digaai.com and the physical space, in addition to the offering the programs mentioned above, aims to develop the platform content.
Digaai Space has a privileged and strategic location: situated on the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway, itself an area of ​​many cultural activities, the location is also close to several educational and cultural institutions such as the New England Aquarium, Children’s Museum, Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) and others. In addition, Digaai Space is located on the same block as the Brazilian Consulate General of Boston.

CINE DIGAAI
Cine Digaai is a series of movie screenings that seeks to bring together people interested in Brazilian cinema. This program’s objective is for the participants to watch films with which they may or may not be familiar and then participate in discussions about the films, which are mediated by Brazilian cultural specialists.
DIGAAI MEMÓRIAS
Digaai Memórias brings together people from the Brazilian community interested in recording their stories or stories about their experiences as immigrants. This program is linked to the tool Conte Sua História (http://www.digaai.com/sua-historia/) on the Digaai platform (http://www.digaai.com) that has to date, a collection of more than two hundred stories. Stories are recorded live in specific sessions or events.
DIGAAI LEITURA
Digaai Leitura is a book club that promotes reader interaction in order to facilitate discussion about interpretations of and points of view regarding a work. The program is open to anyone interested in participating and will alternate its focus between Portuguese and English language books.
DIGAAI BRINCADEIRICES
Brincadeirices is a program that celebrates childhood and the importance of playing at any age! In Brincadeirices, nothing is just for kids or only for adults. Everyone can laugh, play and have fun together. The program is comprised of  shows, storytelling and movies.
DIGAAI PASSEIOS A PÉ
Through walking tours of downtown Boston, participants will learn about the city’s history and explore some of New England’s most renowned cultural institutions such as the New England Aquarium, the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA), the Children’s Museum, and the Boston Tea Party Museum.
DIGAAI DIÁLOGOS
Digaai Diálogos is a series featuring some of Boston’s intellectual and political personalities and mediated by a guest. Each edition of Diálogos will deal with an important theme linked to contemporary issues. The series will be recorded on video and made available on the Digaai platform.
DIGGAI OFICINAS
Digaai Oficinas primarily explores the technologies that support the Digaai platform. Among them are technologies related to geographic information systems such as ARCGIS, Dataverse and Worldmap. The Digaai Wiki uses Wikimedia software that will also be the subject of workshops. In addition to the technologies mentioned above, workshops will be held on WordPress, Digaai’s basic platform, as well as coding and other subjects. The goal of the workshops is for participants to contribute to the Digaai platform while gaining practical skills.
DIGAAI HEMEROTECA
The Digaai Hemeroteca  aims to preserve newspapers and magazines produced by Brazilian immigrants. Digaai uses the dataverse, a tool obtained through a partnership with Harvard University, to archive this important collection. Today, Digaai Dataverse has a collection of more than 30 newspapers.
DIGAAI BATE PAPO
Digaai Bate Papo is a group of people interested in meeting informally to converse in both Portuguese and English. The goal is to practice both languages ​​and to know the cultures that they represent.
DIGAAI WRITE-A-THON
Digaai Write-A-Thon brings together Brazilians and Americans who, through their own research or using materials distributed by the curators, contribute during Write-A-Thon sessions to the content of the Digaai Wiki. These sessions will be take place on weekends.
DIGAAI INSTANTE
Digaai Instante is an occasional event that brings together artists from the Brazilian diaspora and contemporary artists from Boston to present short performances and lead/participate in discussions about those performances.
DIGAAI ESTÁGIO
Digaai Estágio is a partnership between Digaai and the President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizing volunteers for their work over a 12-month period measured at three levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold corresponding to 100, 250 and 500 hours during the 12-month period. The internships vary from working on the Digaai site itself to digitizing Brazilian newspapers, to other projects having to do with many programs included here.
DIGAAI SARAU
Digaai Sarau is a bi-monthly event that brings together Brazilian immigrants, immigrants from other backgrounds, and Americans to appreciate Brazilian culture as expressed through diverse media including music, dance, poetry, painting, and theater.
In addition to the activities outlined above, the space’s programming will evolve organically based on the suggestions of its users. Each new program will be a product of a community project and a specific curator. The space is open to all who want to participate and collaborate with this initiative.
